Skydive Oahu – National Events worth Watching

If you’ve been considering a skydive in Oahu, there’s nothing like the sight of professional skydivers to inspire enthusiasm towards your first skydive in Oahu. Even if you are a skydiving novice, you can still enjoy some of the spectacular competitions that go on around the country.

The USPA remains the arbiter of skydiving regulations adhered to if you skydive in Oahu as well as the national certifying body of competitions and records completed by US skydivers. All the competitions hosted by the USPA are free and open to the public. If you cannot travel in person to view the events, in today’s technology rich world you are sure to find photographs and videos of the competitors online that will inspire awe and perhaps a new passion to skydive Oahu.

Skydiving in Hawaii It's a Sport -- Not a Hobby!

Skydiving can be difficult to explain to non-jumpers.  You may be able to explain to friends and family the thrill of your first Hawaii skydive, or answer questions about safety and whether or not “your stomach drops like on a roller coaster,”  but you will almost certainly find it more difficult to explain some of the less tangible aspects of the sport.

How do you explain the sense of community at a dropzone? Or how much fun it can be to have a great jump with great friends? Even more difficult : how do you explain to friends and family wondering how you can spend every weekend out at the dropzone that skydiving (like any sport,) is something you progressively get better at?

If you had suddenly become an avid golfer, your friends could relate to the concept of you developing your golf skills at the driving range and on the putting green.  Everyone has seen golf on television and everyone knows who Tiger Woods is. Even if they personally can’t get excited about going to the golf course every weekend, they will be able to understand that (for you anyway,) it is time well-spent developing skills and having fun with your fellow golfers.

Even less traditional sports like surfing and snowboarding get coverage and are fairly well understood by even the biggest couch potato.  Heck, even professional snowmobiling is watched by millions during the X Games!

When you arrive at the DZ for skydiving in Hawaii (drop zone for those of you whom neglected the previous article on skydiving in Hawaii terminology), you will be required to sign a standard liability waiver that includes a statement verifying that you are in goodhealth.

At the same time, you will be required to present identification verifying your age. While you should always check with each individual skydiving center, most mandate a minimum age of 18.

Ground Instruction for Your First Hawaii Skydive

From this point, your path to the plane will vary depending on if you are jumping solo (AFF training) or tandem while skydiving in Hawaii. Tandem jumpers are subject to fewer rules and regulations than student solo jumpers since tandem jumpers are accompanied by an experienced instructor. If you are embarking on your first tandem jump when skydiving in Hawaii, the amount of instruction will vary between schools. The time spent in training can be as little as 15 minutes or as great as an hour depending on each individual school and their policies for skydiving in Hawaii.
For some, vacation is all about the joy of doing almost nothing.  Laying in a hammock, having tropical libations brought to them, the only physical activity of the day the act of lathering on copious amounts of spf 50 sunscreen.

For others, vacation is an opportunity to try new things. Whether it’s a different type of food, a new culture, or a brand-new and exhilarating activity.

If you fall into the latter category, skydiving in Hawaii offers you the opportunity to get your fill of exhilaration and excitement.  Perhaps you’ve dreamed of skydiving for years -- but you never find the time during your day-to-day life.  Vacation provides the ideal time and place to make the leap.
If you're reading this blog you're probably tired of leading a whuffo life void of the airgasims felt by skydivers as they reach the jump run. The thrust of the prop blast pushes them into sensory overload before they deploy their canopy and lift takes over while skydiving in Oahu.

And if you didn't understand a word of that sentence, you are not alone. The practice and sport of skydiving has a language all its own that you'll begin to experience as soon as you step foot in the DZ.

Take a look at some basic parachutist lingo that will help you decipher your first skydiving in Oahu experience.

Hawaii Skydiving: Making the First Leap

Whether it’s imagining the agonizing aerial climb into the stratosphere or the silent plummet from plane to earth, Hawaii skydiving has always held a place of both fascination and fear in my gut.

However, sometimes the most extreme experiences also prove to be the ones that truly test our character. And in a world where economies are crumbling, jobs are tenuous and our confidence in personal risk taking has reached historic lows, the words of Dave Stein on his skydiving experience motivate me to take the leap. In his book, How Winners Sell, he wrote “If I could stand in an open airplane doorway two-and-a-half miles above the ground and will myself to step into empty space, then I could do anything.

Celebrate Independence Day With The Feeling of Ultimate Freedom

Fourth of July brings together family and friends for a much needed summer vacation. What better way to celebrate our nation’s independence than by asserting your own with a Honolulu skydiving experience. Whether young, old or somewhere in between, skydiving offers everyone a memorable experience.

While the legal skydiving age is 18, younger flyers have been know to parachute through the skies. Just this past November, nine year old Romanian thrill seeker, Valentina Mihanciu did her first tandem skydive. At 12,000 feet, she and her instructor leapt into the skies -- with her parent’s permission, of course. In the United States the minimum age to begin skydiving is 18 years old.

"Other dropzones have a tendency to do their beginner tandems from 7,000-8,000 feet, whereas Pacific usually goes all the way to 14,000 feet. So if a longer freefall is what you want, definitely go with Pacific."
